     34ND ANNUAL SPRING LUNCHEON
  • To Be Announced

 Our 2006 guest speaker

Fr. Mark Clarke, CMF
Priest Associate, Priests for Life

Fr. Mark Clarke, CMF
was born and raised in Orange, California.  He felt the call to be a priest in the eighth grade.

Before entering the seminary, Fr. Mark received certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and was a paramedic trainee for the Los Angeles City Fire Department.  He then attended Chapman University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a Minor in Biology. He did graduate work at California State University, Los Angeles and worked as an analytical chemist in the pharmaceutical industry in Irvine for five years.

In 1994, he joined the Claretian Missionaries and studied at the Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, Texas. During his years of formation with the Claretian Missionaries, he was involved with youth ministry, especially at several Catholic high schools, and worked with the marriage preparation program for the Archdiocese of San Antonio.

During his pastoral year in California, he was a chaplain for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department ministering at a county jail facility in Lynwood and also facilitated the respect-life program at a parish in Long Beach. Fr. Mark graduated from the Oblate School of Theology with a Master of Arts in Theology and a Master of Divinity in May of 2002.

Fr. Mark’s Masters Thesis focused on the U.S. bishops' treatment of the abortion issue during the past century. In addition to reviewing the bishops' documents addressing respect life issues beginning in 1919, he examined all the bishops statements published from 1990-2000 relating to abortion in the context of family, health care, justice and peace, and respect for life. A particular focus was given to the bishops' treatment of abortion in relation to euthanasia and capital punishment. His Master of Divinity project addressed theological and canonical aspects of marriage.

Fr. Mark was ordained a priest in January of 2003. He served as associate pastor of San Gabriel Mission, where he conducted various pro-life outreaches and assisted with the Rachel’s Vineyard Retreats in Los Angeles. In July of 2005 he was given permission to work as a full-time associate of Priests for Life.

REACHOUT SPRING LUNCHEON

OUR GUEST SPEAKER
DINAH MONAHAN has followed her mother and father’s footsteps and is very dedicated to the pro-life movement.            The following is her background information:
Dinah Monahan has been involved in the Pro-Life movement since before Roe vs. Wade. Her mother, Virginia Evers, created the Precious Feet, the International Pro-Life symbol. Throughout the years, she and her husband have been involved in nearly every aspect of Pro-Life work, from housing unwed mothers to planning huge rallies. Dinah is the founder and Executive Director of Women’s Choice Pregnancy Clinic and Hope House Maternity Home in Show Low, AZ. She and her husband also own Heritage House ‘76, one of the oldest and largest Pro-Life suppliers in the country.
Dinah is a nationally recognized speaker and writer. She has spoken at Focus on the Family numerous times and will do an all-day seminar there for the CPC Director’s Conference in February. She speaks regularly at the national conferences of
National Right to Life, Heartbeat International, Carenet and Lutherans for Life. Dinah lives with her husband Mike and the last of her five children in Show Low, Arizona.

Related biographical information: On January 22, 1974, Virginia and Ellis Evers ran across a full page ad in their local newspaper in San Diego, CA. Prominent in the ad was a picture of the tiny feet of a ten week old unborn baby held between a man’s fingers and thumb. Inspired by the remarkable photo, Virginia Evers felt there little feet would be the ideal Pro-Life symbol. With love and dedication for the unborn, Virginia designed the “Precious Feet” lapel pin.
In 1979, at a world-wide symposium in Dublin, Ireland, the “Precious Feet” were named the “International Pro-Life Symbol”. Since that time over 9,000,000 have been distributed throughout the world.
In 1991, Virginia and Ellis retired with the consolation that their ministry would continue through their daughter and son- in-law, Dinah and Mike Monahan. For six years the Monahans took pregnant young women into their home under the “We Care” program sponsored by the Heritage House.
Today they are expanding their Pro-Life efforts by focusing on the cause and prevention of abortion. Chastity and abstinence will help to prevent contraceptive abortion in our country. The programs will reduce the number of children born into single-parent families, decrease welfare costs and help curb the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Chastity begins in the home. Our families are the answer.
